On a futuristic planet, society has divided itself into three factions that have been fighting a brutal war for centuries over control and resources. However, recent technological advancements have brought with them the invention of colossal, human-like mechs — and very quickly, two things have become apparent:
- If these machines are operated indiscriminately by all factions, it won’t be long before the planet is completely destroyed in the fallout.
- They can only be piloted by humans of the exact age of seventeen.
In order to avoid all out annihilation, the three factions quickly signed a treaty, establishing base rules for use of these mechs: each faction can only have a certain number of mechs at a time; any use of mechs must take place either on designated military grounds or unoccupied territories; and perhaps most importantly, the prospective teen pilots must attend a politically-neutral three year school — one that would house and teach them the use of these combat machines, known henceforth as Yearbooks.
The age of a cold war has begun. On the surface, the factions are friendly and cooperative. The quiet school life of pilot children is branded as peaceful and harmonious — but beneath the veneer, the war insidiously progresses; each faction trying to undermine the others, using teenagers as pawns in a veiled political game.
